In what is a first WorldSSP season for both Alcoba and his Ninja ZX-6R 636 machine the aim at Donington is to make it the scene of their first podium finish. Jeremy was fifth in the second race of the opening round at Australia and he currently sits ninth overall.
Strong race pace has been in evidence at most venues this season. Taking an optimum starting position after Superpole Qualifying is something that the team is working on to ensure that Jeremy can stick with the leading group in the crucial early laps of each race.
Jeremy has lapped the Donington Park layout before and as a result he understands some of its complexities and characteristics before he arrives there in pursuit of championship points.
The 4.023km long circuit is comprised of two very distinct sectors, with truly contrasting features.
The first and longest sector comprises generally fast and flowing corners, with several changes of direction required at high speed. There are multiple changes of gradient and camber in both the first and final sectors, but the ‘Melbourne Loop’ comprises hard braking areas into one initial chicane and then the two full hairpins that complete each lap.
The Donington weekend race action will officially get underway on Friday 11 July, with Superpole Qualifying being the main highlight of the opening day. There will be two subsequent 19-lap WorldSSP races - one at 13.35 local time on Saturday and the second at 15.15 on Sunday.
The eighth round of the championship will take place at an all-new venue - Balaton Park in Hungary - between 25-27 July.
Jeremy Alcoba stated: “The break is finally over. I can’t wait to get to Donington and continue our work to develop the ZX-6R 636 and make it more competitive. I’m training hard and I am also highly motivated. I’ve completed some tests at Donington and I really like the track. It’s typically British and not easy to interpret but really cool. The only unknown might be the weather, but we’ll be ready whatever the conditions. Our goal? Only one – to reach the podium.”
