Top Five Finish For Alcoba

FIM Supersport World Championship rider Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) equalled his best performance of the season by finishing fifth in the second race of the Misano WorldSSP weekend.

Alcoba had started the race from 14th place on the grid, on the fifth row. He was on strong form from the start as he moved forward on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636.

He even managed to bridge the gap between two groups of riders, such was his pace and consistency.

With five complete laps to go the race was red flagged when a rider crashed and had to receive initial medical care at the trackside.

The results were thus called on lap 13, for safety reasons. By this stage Alcoba had worked his way into fifth place, after a stirring ride from the very start.

Although just over five seconds from the winning race time, Alcoba was 1.4 seconds up on the rider behind him.

In the championship Alcoba is now ninth, with 88 points.

The seventh round of the championship takes place at Donington Park in the UK, between 11-13 July.

Jeremy Alcoba stated: “Fifth place was a really strong result for us. I think we did a really good job yesterday to help us improve today. It’s true that there were many crashes at the front but we did not lose time to the leading group. We just missed a gap at the beginning. I had a really positive start and I felt good on the first lap, but then I struggled a bit in stopping the bike with a full fuel tank. When the tyre dropped and the fuel load came down I started to feel better, like yesterday. I started to find my rhythm. At the end, at the red flag, we finished in P5. It was not easy to catch the front group but to defend P5 was also OK. We can say that we are closer to the front. We felt really good at this track, with the bike and everything, so let’s see how it goes at the next races. I am happy with the work the team did, and the pace is there.”

Wildcard rider Xavi Artigas (Blackflag Motorsport Kawasaki) was 16th in the second race of the Misano weekend, just missing out on a championshiop point.
