Toprak Wins Again In STK1000 And Deroue Leads WorldSSP300

Toprak Razgatlioglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) took his Ninja ZX-10RR to his second win of the new season and the lead in the championship for the first time after a commanding victory in the STK1000 championship race at Donington Park.

The 15-lap race on Sunday afternoon saw Toprak start from fourth on the grid after qualifying, but made early progress in securing first place before the end of lap one.

When his main championship rival Michael Ruben Rinaldi fell early in the race, when sitting just behind him, Toprak made the best use of the clear track to run away and clear, enjoying an eventual margin of victory of 1.813 seconds.

Ilya Mykhalchyk (Triple M Racing Kawasaki) was the next best Kawasaki rider in the British race, in sixth place. Jeremy Guarnoni (Pedercini Racing Kawasaki) was eighth at Donington.

Having secured four strong finishes, including two wins so far, Razgatlioglu is now leading the championship with 79 points to Rinaldi’s 70. Guarnoni is sixth overall and Mykhalchyk eighth.

In the Manufacturers’ Championship Kawasaki now leads by three points after Razgatlioglu’s confident Donington victory.

Toprak Razgatlioglu stated, “I am really happy to have won again because this was my best race so far. We also took the championship lead today. Big thanks to the team because they did a great job this weekend. Now I can look forward to Misano with them.”

In the all-new WorldSSP300 championship, Scott Deroue (MTM HS Kawasaki) could not get away with the leading trio but headed up a large pack fighting for fourth place at the 4.023km Donington circuit.

His perseverance and commitment to lead the group chasing the podium trio gave him 13 points in the end, which means he is still leading the category after four of the nine rounds.

For both WorldSSP300 and STK1000 the next round will be held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, with raceday on 18 June.

At the recent Donington Park meeting Kawasaki once again enjoyed great success, almost across the board. Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea won a race apiece for KRT, as Kawasaki reached the landmark of 100 race wins since WorldSBK began in 1988. Kenan Sofuoglu was the winner of the WorldSSP race and, as described above, Toprak Razgatlioglu was victorious in the Superstock event.

Scott Deroue, stated: “It's pretty annoying that I can't leave Donington Park with a place on the rostrum, as in the past I always rode good races on this track. I guess I had a good fight as well this time, but three boys were just a little bit quicker this weekend. I couldn't close the gap to them. With a fourth position I'm still leading the championship and I'm glad about that. But, from now on there has to be some good results, as I can't lose any more points. It will be exciting at the front of the field, that's for sure.”
