French youngster Jaulin was an emphatic ten-second winner of the second moto at the sweeping Matterley Basin track in Hampshire on Sunday morning after suffering misfortune in the opening race the previous afternoon. Recovering quickly from a poor start Sulivan was through to third place within a few laps before he collided with another rider, the incident not only costing him several places but also causing damage to the silencer. Despite the handicap he crossed the line in ninth position but was penalised one minute for failing the post-race noise control so that he was eventually classified twentieth. Leading the Sunday race from the first turn, Jaulin was never headed and, despite missing the opening race of the series, is now eighth in the championship standings.
Spanish teenager Zaragoza rode strongly on both days to earn second overall and move back to second in the championship standings. His starts were moderate each day, but he advanced emphatically from an initial ninth place to finish third in the first moto, and then converted a sixth place on the opening lap of race two into a fifth placed finish to earn another visit to the podium on the overall result over the weekend. Jorge is now second in the points table, just 21 points behind the current pacesetter with four rounds of the series remaining.
Sulivan Jaulin: “This morning I had a strong motivation for the second race, and I got another holeshot to lead the pack in the first corner. I knew that the Dutch rider in second position would push during the first few laps but I controlled him and then I could make the gap to win the race. It’s great, as I only scored one point in the first moto yesterday; my start was not as good as the second one, but when I was in third position I lost the silencer. I finished ninth, but then got a one-minute penalty, as the bike was too noisy at the post-race control. That’s part of any mechanical sport unfortunately.”
Jorge Zaragoza: “It was a pretty good weekend for me with second place overall, and I’m back in second position in the standings. The track was rough due to the rain on Saturday, but I managed to come back from ninth to finish in third position. Today the track was different as it was sunny and windy; my start was better than yesterday and I scored a fifth place.”
